Tip of the week: Pick up ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear if you’re looking for something full of a-ha moments starting from Chapter 1. Literally.
I’ve just started the audiobook and the key takeaways so far:
š„ Patience and Compounding. It takes time to start seeing results so we need to be patient. It’s also important to set easy, micro goals that can be achievable on a regular basis. You may hit a “plateau of latent potential”ā but don’t feel discouraged; keep pushing through.
š„ Habits are the compound interest of self improvement. Getting 1% better every day counts for a lot in the long run. Over time, these will turn into a big result that may not be obvious during the process.
š„ Forget about goals, focus on systems insteadā . You limit yourself and your happiness when you have a goal-focused mindset. The purpose of goals wis to win the game, the purpose of systems is to continue playing the gameā .
š„ If you’re having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn’t you; the problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves not because you don’t want to change but because you have the wrong system in place for changeā .
š„ Be kind to yourself. The task of breaking a bad habit is like uprooting a mighty oak ā within us and the task of building a good habit is like cultivating a delicate flower one day at a timeā .
ā
š„ You don’t rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your systems. We need to shift to a system mindset because it will give us a stronger foundation and greater freedom. Once we’ve got our systems in place, then the possibilities are endless.
